Since 2004, I have established a medico-legal practice, and work within a department that has considerable experience in this area. I am able to offer expert specialist opinions on manyareas of neurological practice – including the neurological consequences of trauma (such as headache, post-concussion syndrome, headache and exacerbation of existing conditions such as multiple sclerosis). My medico-legal work is supported and informed by my clinical and academic practice as a consultant neurologist at UCLH NHS Trust, which is a large London teaching hospital, and The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen Square.
General neurology
I manage and deliver a service that is actively involved in a wide-range of neurological problems, including headache, brain injury, multiple sclerosis, peripheral nerve and muscle disorders, and stroke. I am one of 6 neurologists providing a liaison service to a range of departments in UCLH, including A&E, medicine, oncology and the surgical specialities.

I maintain a specialist interest in epilepsy, and I work as an honorary senior lecturer with the Department of Clinical and Experimental Epilepsy, who have an international reputation in terms of management of complex epilepsy – including neuro-surgical treatment. In liaison with A&E and acute services I have established and direct a first seizure/syncope diagnostic clinic, which establishes precise diagnosis, treatment and prognosis for individuals who have suffered episodes of loss of consciousness – including those occurring in relation to traumatic head injuries. Obstetric neurology Together with a consultant obstetrician and consultant obstetric physician,
I co-direct the UK’s only obstetric-neurology clinic. This clinic specialises in the pre-conception counselling, pregnancy, and immediate post-natal care of women who become pregnant with – or who develop – neurological problems in relation to pregnancy. Through this clinic I have also developed expertise in the area of teratogenesis in relation to drugs used to treat neurological conditions in pregnancy. Academic
Through my PhD research, I have an academic background in economic outcomes research, and continue to publish on issues concerning the social, employment and economic outcomes of neurological illness. Clinical Governance Through my NHS Practice, I am actively involved in clinical governance,
but have particular expertise through my role as Deputy Caldicott Guardian and also NHNN representative on the UCLH Use of Medicines Committee. Referees

The economic impact of anti-epileptic drugs was investigated using modelling techniques and also methods that incorporated patient preferences. Research was based on a large number of patient interviews performed within a clinical setting. Socio-economic factors were considered. Cost-effectiveness and cost-benefit analyses were performed.
