Shelley is a 32-year-old mother of two beautiful girls. This person grew up with red spots on the face. Since this did not pose any problems, these were perceived to be freckles that people get in the teenage years, which will eventually go away as the individual, gets older. Unfortunately, this remained until Shelley was much older and was shocked with the diagnosis given by the doctor. The specialist said that this woman had Acne. Acne is a considered to be common skin disorder. This may appear in the form or blockheads, whiteheads, cysts but in the case of Shelley were red spots on the face. The disease as the doctor explained starts in the teenage years but will only affect women only in the thirties. The specialist continued to explain that scientists have not yet been able to determine the cause of this disease. One theory often suggested is due to the hormone levels that normally increase during puberty. The part of the face where acne came out reacts by producing excess oils. Bacteria that people get from dust and dirt then mix with it producing the substances that cause Acne. The hair follicles in that area may also react with dead skin cells causing the person to have pimples. Some people think that going on a diet and eating certain foods often cause Acne. Tests have not yet confirmed that but its best to stop consuming these items if this causes it to worsen. Patients who notice anything wrong in the face should consult with a dermatologist immediately. This is because treating it in the later stages will leave permanent scars on the face which wont happen if action is taken during its early stages. Acne is treatable using a series of antibiotics. Four examples of these are erythromycin, clindamycin, tetracycline and benzoyl peroxides that should be taken on an empty stomach to improve absorption by the body. The doctor may also recommend the use of lotions or creams if these are needed. A few examples of these are peeling agents like sulfur and topical Vitamin A such as those found in Airol, Eudyna, Retin A or Stieva A. The only way for the dermatologist to monitor the progress of the patient will be for the individual to visit the clinic regularly. The person should advice the doctor if any allergies or side effects occur so that another product can be prescribed instead. The big question for many women will be if the individual can still use cosmetics after being diagnosed with Acne? The answer is yes. It is advisable to use water based and oil free versions sparingly so that this will not hamper the medications that have been given. The person should do more than just rely on antibiotics, creams or lotions to clean the face. The most affordable way will be to wash it with soap and water or with medical cleansers. People who have oily skin are advised to do this three times a day while others can do this after getting up in the morning and before going to bed in the evening. Acne is just one of the many skin disorders that can happen to anybody. Proper hygiene, a good diet and a regular visit to the doctor can prevent the disease from worsening.
