PCCSL/04/01/2008: Mr. Vasantha Fernando vs Divaina: “vishramagath police sarayan masa 10 kata pasu
yalith policiyata ringala.” A court ruling was given seven years after he filed the original case clearing him.
The complainant wants the earlier newspaper report carried seven years ago corrected. The PCCSL
Secretariat explained that complaints against published articles within a period of two-years can be
considered according to the Rule and Procedures of the Dispute Resolution Council of the Press Complaints
Commission of Sri Lanka. The complaint was taken up before the DRC meeting in January. The DRC ruled
that the PCCSL Secretariat should follow the rules and procedures when resolving complaints and therefore

PCCSL/05/02/2008: Mr. A. Illanko vs Uthayan (Jaffna): “Pallali Teacher Training College: Request to hand
over responsibilities of principal to deputy principal, Ministry of Education informed.” Complainant sends

PCCSL/01/04/2008: Ms. Chulie de Silva vs Sunday Times: Use of photograph without by-line. Complained
against the use of a photograph of “Sri Lanka’s Tara Devi statue at the British Museum” taken by her and
reproduced in an article titled “Lost treasures to be brought home” omitting her by-line for the photograph.
Complaint was entertained on the grounds that a similar complaint against a photograph taken by a
research student appeared in an article without her by-line in the Sunday Observer. In that instance the
newspaper obliged by carrying the photograph and the complainant’s by-line (PCCSL/01/03/2009). In this
complaint, await Complaint Form to proceed. COMPLAINANT DID NOT PROCEED
PCCSL/02/004/2008: Mr. A. E. Goonasinha vs Sunday Leader. An article written by Mr. Gamini Weerakoon
in his column called Serendipity appearing in the Sunday Leader being defamatory of the complainant’s

PCCSL/03/09/2009: Mr. C. U. Ranaweera vs Lankadeepa, Divaina and Lake House newspapers: A number
of newspapers are publishing stories that could affect the Water’s Edge Case that is before the Supreme
Court. Informed complainant that since the story refers to a case pending in court, the Secretariat cannot

PCCSL/04/09/2009: Mr. J. I. A. Wijayakulasuriya vs Daily Mirror: “Open warrant on Yasmin Mohamed.” The
case refers to two foreign accounts maintained by Chairman of Seylan Bank. The case is also before courts,
