GOVERNMENT OF MEGHALAYA FINANCE (PENSION CELL) DEPARTMENT NOTIFICATION Dated Shillong, the 16th May, 2011 No.FEM(PC)-90/2007/494 – The Governor of Meghalaya is pleased to set up Pension Adalats in the District Headquarters of the State, namely, East Khasi Hills, West Khasi Hills, Ri-Bhoi, Jaintia Hills, East Garo Hills, West Garo Hills and South Garo Hills for settlement of pending pension cases, in respect of retired and or deceased Government employees. The Pension Adalat shall consist of the following members: Chairperson

Nominees of the Accountant General (A&E) Meghalaya -
Shri Bikramjit Ghosh, Assistant Accounts Officer.
Pension sanctioning authority/controlling Authority/Head of office of concerned Department or their representation.
Treasury Officer, District Treasury, East Khasi Hills/West Khasi Hills/Ri_Bhoi/Jaintia Hills/East Garo Hills/West Garo Hills and South Garo Hills.

Terms of reference of Pension Adalat:
Pension Adalat shall be held in the District Headquarter of every district in the State to provide a forum of interaction between the Pension sanctioning authorities/controlling authorities/Head of offices, officials of the office of the Accountant General (A&E) Meghalaya, concerned pensioners, etc., for expeditious settlement of pending pension cases.
Pension Adalat shall be held with at least one month’s advance notice to the Deputy Commissioner (s), the members of the Pension Adalat and especially the Pension sanctioning authorities/Controlling authorities/Heads of offices/Accountant General (A&E) Meghalaya.
The list of pension cases pending for settlement by the Accountant General (A&E) shall be circulated in advance to the Pension sanctioning authorities/Controlling authorities/Head of office for necessary information, particularly with respect to the wanting information/documents desired by the Accountant General (A&E).
The Pension sanctioning authorities/controlling authorities/Heads of officer shall attend the Pension Adalat with all the wanting information/documents as called for by the Accountant General (A&E).
Pending pension cases and wanting information/documents shall be discussed by members in presence of the Pension sanctioning authorities/Controlling authorities/Heads of officer concerned.
Wherever wanting information/documents as may be furnished by Pension sanctioning authorities/controlling/Heads of offices concerned are found to be adequate, same shall be accepted by members-nominees of the Accountant General (A&E) for settlement of pending pension cases.
Following the acceptance of wanting information/documents, settlement of pension and issuing of authority for drawal of pension shall be made by the Accountant General (A&E) within a reasonable period not exceeding thirty days.
Active members of the Meghalaya Pensioners’ Association and concerned pensioner may also attend the Pension Adalat.
The Pension Adalats shall be serviced by the Finance (Pension Cell) Department.
