 Simply Business qualified by finishing third behind the heavily favored Sweet Lou in his Pace elimination with Hall of Famer Ron Pierce at the lines. Leaving from post seven, Simply Business kicked home from second over and posted a :26.3 final quarter with the addition of Lasix.  "He was better [in the elim] than I’ve ever seen him," said Pierce. "I think he’s coming into the race fine. He was gaining on the leaders in the lane and they pretty much had their way up front. They didn’t really battle it out at all and we only got beat a neck. I was very happy with him. He gapped a little bit in the turn, which is nothing unusual for him. He’s been known to gap in the turn before; almost every time I race him he does. Maybe [in the final] if he doesn’t we’ll be that much closer where we can chase them down."  "[Jimmy] Takter is really high on him and thinks he’s going to have him just right," Pierce also noted. "Attitude wise, gait wise, everything was better with him. He was just a pleasure to race. He’s a big, tough guy. Sometimes he’d rather go out there and just mess around than put his head down and race. But [in the elimination] he was willing. If he wants to, he can go. Jimmy is going to have him as good as he can and we know what he can do with a horse. It should be interesting. It should be a great race. There are some very powerful colts in there."  “We put him on Lasix for the elimination and he’s going to step up further,” said trainer Jimmy Takter. “We had been trying to put off adding Lasix because he’s still a young horse, but it had come to the point where it was affecting his performance. He raced really well on Saturday and Ron [driver Ron Pierce] was quite happy with him. I’m very optimistic about him going into this final.  “It was kind of a strange stretch drive,” Takter continued. “In the last eighth it looked like he wasn’t going to get a check, and then in the final sixteenth he kicked in like a cork out of a champagne bottle. If he gets underway a bit earlier he might have won. Again, it was a bit weird because several of the horses had not raced in awhile.”  Simply Business is a full brother to 2010 Pace finalist Rockin Image. He is one of four sons of 2005 Pace champion and New Jersey sire Rocknroll Hanover to advance to Saturday’s edition.  The $350,000 yearling established himself as a top freshman in 2011, upsetting the $1 million Metro  Simply Business is owned by Brixton Medical Ab and Order By Stable of Sweden, and Louie Camara, Marvin Katz, Al Libfeld and Sam Goldband of Ontario. The same ownership found success in 2011 with the same partnering of Takter and Pierce when they won the Hambletonian with Muscle Massive.  Trainer Jimmy Takter, who has won virtually every trotting stake in the sport, is making his third appearance in the Meadowlands Pace. Takter finished second with Vintage Master in 2009.  He looks to become just the sixth trainer to win both the Pace and Hambletonian, joining the elite company of Steve Elliot, Blair Burgess, William Haughton, Chuck Sylvester and Ray Remmen.  Takter, 51, trains a large roster of trotters and pacers at his own complex, Millennium Farm, in East Windsor, New Jersey. The Swedish native was inducted into harness racing’s Hall of Fame this month.  Driver Ron Pierce, 55, has won three of the last four Pace finals and four overall. Pierce pulled a 5-1 upset from post eight last year with Roll With Joe in 1:48.2. His first victory came with Dream Away in 1997. His other winners are Well Said (2009) and Art Official (2008).
